After a 27-year hiatus from the horse world, I met a sporty little black Quarter Horse named Poco Blu Bar, 10 years ago, when I turned 50.
I fell in love with his personality, size and looks and leased him for a year, then bought him. Blu is a jack-of-all-trade, master-of-none so to speak. He is a smart opinionated cow-pony that has joined me in trying out penning, trail-riding, speed events, swimming, and dressage. As I attempted classical dressage, I questioned why we couldn’t show in a western saddle, as it would suit us better. Not long after, I learned about Western Dressage on social media! And so, our true Dressage journey began.
I currently train in 1st level Western Dressage, aspiring to move onto 2nd level in a year or two.
Since coming back from the 2015 Worlds in Tulsa Oklahoma I have realized that Western Dressage has changed my life!
It has become my passion. WDAA is a wonderful, friendly Association that puts the horse and rider’s happiness first. I do not have to depend on anyone but myself to be a part of WD. I want to grow with and contribute to WD in the future either as a volunteer or serve on the board. I thought of becoming a WD judge but that might be a very lofty goal for now. I learn something new every day from WDAA, my horse, my trainer and my close friends I show with.
I am married to Bern, and live in Byron Center MI. I board and train Blu at Serenity Farm with Janine Holmes.
I work full time as a purchasing agent for a conveyor belt company in Grand Rapids Mi. (I hope to retire in 2 years). I am a 4-H leader with Making Strides 4-H club in Byron Center.
